DIY Chicken Coop – Build Your Own Chicken Coop

A DIY chicken coop is something in my wildest dreams I thought I never would write about. You see I don’t do DIY, I’m more of a DDIY (don’t do it yourself) man. Of course I have done some jobs around the house such as put shelves up which have promptly fallen down just a few days later. Assembled flat pack furniture items but always seem to have a couple of spare pieces. I always thought it much easier and pain free to either buy ready-made or pay a tradesman to get the job done.

Recently though we moved to the countryside in search of a “green type” lifestyle. I’ve always fancied having a few chickens that could produce a few eggs each week or rearing a few birds for the dinner table. All I needed to do was get a chicken coop so the birds would be protected against the conditions and secure from the foxes than seem to be vastly increasing in numbers.

I decided that I would build my own chicken coop. I found a few sites on the internet and purchased a set of chicken coop plans. I have to be honest and say they were either poor quality or perhaps my plan reading skills needed work. I was though not giving up! I found a site that reviewed chicken coop plans with the best review in favour of a video course. I bought the video course for a modest fee., and within 3 days my chicken coop was completed! Better still after 2 months it still standing strong which is an all time world record for anything I have ever built!
