5 Best Puppy House Training Tips

Every new dog owner will need some good puppy house training tips. Housebreaking your puppy is not a difficult task and should be handled in a positive manner. Before long your puppy will be your best friend.

1. One of the best puppy house training tips is to create a routine and stick to it. Dog’s are creatures of habit and adjust to routines very nicely. When making this schedule, have a certain time to wake your puppy up in the morning (even on your day off), have a bedtime for them, and feed meals at the same time daily.

2. Take your puppy out to potty often. Young pups have small bladders and can’t hold it for extended periods of time. As a rule of thumb, it’s about 1-2 hours per month of age (2 months old = 2-3 hours they can hold it).

3. Take your puppy to a designated spot to potty.

Dog’s don’t like to soil their beds and will usually hold it if given plenty of opportunities to potty elsewhere and not forced to hold it forever. Just make sure to invest in one that is just big enough for them to stand up and turn around in or else they will use one end to relieve themselves and the other to sleep.

5. While housebreaking your puppy, expect accidents. If you don’t catch your puppy in the act, just clean it up, and keep a closer eye on them and take out more often. One puppy house training tips to keep in mind is to never scold your pup for making a mistake, this may cause them to begin to fear you, causing behavior problems later on. Instead keep a close eye on them and catch them in the act. If you do, take them outside to finish and praise them at that time.
